Hey all,
I’ll be rounding out the bureaucracy series this week, with a final post on Tuesday (fingers crossed), and some questions this all raises going forward (Thursday), as prompted by my eminent colleagues who have been silently reading along.
But I wanted to put another plug in for our upcoming book club on Ivan Illich’s Shadow Work. Within the Illich corpus, it’s a lesser known volume, and a bit harder to get your hands on, but has implications for how we think about gender, labor, technology, and host of other issues. One of my constant presumptions is that money and economic questions make some roads more visible, and obscure others in our moral imagination, and Illich is great for helping us to see some of these things.
This is available to supporting subscribers only, but if you want, grab a week trial and come join us next Monday. Or, take advantage of the sale running this month. Or just read it by yourself: Illich will wreck you and change your life.
Thanks, and hope to see you soon,
MPMW
Ivan Illich has been on my reading list for a long time but I've never quite gotten around to him. May just have to join you!
